Private Practice
My specialities include alcohol and drug counseling, grief and loss counseling, life transitions including empty nesters, retirement, divorce, women’s issues, death and dying. End of life counseling helps individuals who may be struggling with a terminal diagnosis. As both a social worker and a death doula I help the dying individual, their family and caregivers to prepare for death through education, and addressing mental, emotional, physical and spiritual needs. I look at the unique needs of the individual and family. Together we might look at various issues: how a person wants their body taken care of after death, home funerals, celebration of life, disposition of possessions, and the many other challenges associated with the dying process. I offer guided imagery for relaxation and to treat anxiety that often comes with a diagnosis of a life-limiting illness.
Difficult emotions such as disbelief, frustration, anger, sadness are a few of the many emotions that often accompany the loss of a loved one. These and many other emotional and physical symptoms are part of the process of coping after a significant loved one dies. It may take time to move through the pain of loss all while trying to go on with day-to day-life. Bereavement counseling is the process of learning to live life after loss. The process includes learning to believe in oneself, patience for what you are going through and discovering a new normal.
Bereavement Groups
Bereavement group for anyone who has experienced the loss of a loved one. Reclaim your life after loss. A journey of reconnecting. The process of healing and moving forward is not often easy or simple. Grieving is as unique as our fingerprints. Grief is not fixable.
The group meets in person, weekly for 6 weeks. Each week builds on the one before. Support and tools for this journey are offered. Renewing…….Empowering…… We will look at how you learned to grieve. Dispel the myth that there is a “right way” to grieve. Learn the 3Ns of grieving: Normal, Natural, Necessary and the importance of each.
As certified grief educator, I understand that grief can be traumatic and transformative. We can’t heal what we don’t feel.
Groups & Seminars on Death & Dying
Groups include our workbook, ”You Can Heal Your Life”. We explore the many facets of the last part of life. We look at the acceptance of death as a part of life. The importance of a life review is considered. Your legacy is one of my favorite sessions. Allowing individuals to share what has brought meaning to their lives, perhaps purpose.
Grief Counseling
We offer a safe place to explore your grief and understand the grieving process. Grief is unique to each person. Though many similarities, grief is experienced individually. Grief is a complex emotion that deserves time and focus no matter the length of grief.
Death Education
Seminars are designed to provide education on issues regarding the process of death and dying, and the opportunity to ask questions about the role of a Death Doula. We communicate this important information primarily in person but also via Zoom, podcasts and by phone. We are consultants to the living and dying who want to put their “affairs in order”. We inform people of ALL the elements of HOW to face death – physical, emotional and spiritual in order to live one’s life to the fullest.
